Junn (Cheng), a Chinese-Cambodian woman living in London, does not speak English and is left stuck in a nursing home when her son, Kai, suddenly and tragically dies. Soon she is regularly visited by Richard (Whishaw), Kai’s boyfriend, who is longing to still have a connection to his late partner in the midst of his grief and feels obliged to help Junn.
Unfortunately Junn is unaware of her son’s sexuality, leaving her resenting the perceived ‘friendship’ between the two men and Richard struggling to share and quantify his loss – a difficult task which is further complicated by their language barriers.
